The Last DECRA

What The DECRA is a grant for early career researchers, funded by the Australian Research Council. It’s a three year fellowship, providing both salary support and research funding.

Who You are eligible to apply up to 5 years post-PhD, and has allowances for career interruptions. You must have the support of an Australian university, but you do NOT have to be currently employed at an Australian university.

When For funding commending in 2027 (for which the default PhD award date is 1 March 2021), applications will be open early in the new year, with anticipated results announcement in September-October.

Why Last? I’ve been told it’s the last. The ARC isn’t great at actually announcing things like this. (this is what I can find). So if you’re eligible, and want to live in Australia, apply this round!

Is it a good deal? Yes (personal experience).

What does an application look like Here’s mine. It’s a sample size of one.
