How do we get the ICC to see the sense of including preliminary finals in the World Cup (and so moving to a McIntyre final four system? All World Cups to date have had two knockout semi-finals, with the winners facing each other in the final. It’s well-known the McIntyre final four system is fairer, and as a bonus, you get one more final game, so more money! Dear greedy ICC, surely the money argument is the one to win you over.
It’s not even as though cricket is unfamiliar with the practice. The Big Bash league uses this system, albeit with adding their own silly names for the various games.
I am very willing to be paid an exorbitant amount of money as a consulting fee, and even flown first class to an ICC meeting to explain to those in charge the superiority of the McIntyre system.
Wikipedia has the format for the 2027 World Cup, which includes the dumb version of the final four. It’s not too late to change it – in fact they changed from a super six to a super seven just two days ago.
